DIY Pom Pom Fleece Blanket

The air was a brisk 66 degrees the other morning here in Houston. AKA, sweater/scarf/down comforter weather! (We are weaklings in the cold and we know it.) Not only did I break out the sweaters for work, I’ve gone so far as to purchase fleece fabric and make the best cuddling blanket of all time. Big enough to wrap up in twice or share with a buddy, this pom pom fleece blanket is perfect for the frozen weather.

The pom pom trim adds a touch of whimsy to this blanket, but the muted colors keep it from feeling too crafty. I love draping it over the side of the couch with the little white orbs dangling toward the floor.  I had seen others like it online (here, here, and here) and knew I had to recreate one for myself.

Might I add, for under $20? The fleece was on sale for $2.99 a yard – I basically stole it. And the pom pom trim was about $4 a yard. Sold.

Obviously you can make yours as large or small as you want, and in any color of the rainbow.

1. Take your fleece and fold the two long edges over 1/4″ and pin them down. Sew a zig-zag stitch all along the edges of the fabric.

4. Complete your blanket with the pom-pom trim by cutting the full length in half and pinning it down over the zig-zag stitch you just made in order to cover up the exposed seams on both short ends of the blanket. Sew a zig-zag stitch on the thick part of the trim.

Throw your blanket over your shoulders and pour yourself a cuppa! Or carefully lay it over the sofa arm and pretend you own a model home with your adorable new throw.
