Lately it feels like balloons have made a comeback. Like, they were very cool when I was six and everyone got to bring a latex balloon home from a birthday party. The weekend before last I joined my friends, along with the rest of America, to watch the Super Bowl. I made my version of Chuy’s classic jalapeño ranch dip and swapped out the sour cream for Greek yogurt. Though my Superbowl plans are not yet set, I am sure to be watching the game, rooting on my third adopted team (Go Broncos!), and snacking hard core.
I like to bring something to the party that’s a little different from everyone else. Though wings, pizza, and chips are needed, there always tends to be like five times too many of all of them. If you’re looking for something original to surprise everyone with, try one of the recipes I’ve shared over the last couple of years!
1. Fresh Mango Salsa – It’s great to have an alternative to the normal salsa with this fresh and zesty one!
2. Hummus (for cheaters – so easy!)
3. The godly Chuy’s Jalapeno Ranch Dip – This might not look like much, but get back to me in an hour when you’re still chowing down like you’ll never get to have it again.
4. Baked Shoestring Sweet Potato Fries – Grab a handful – or ten – they’re baked and way better for you than the normal chips.
5. Decadent Crabby Avocado Dip – This is a great way to feed your vegetarian friends since it eats like a meal and so simple to throw together.

As you may have seen on my Instagram, I helped to host a birthday celebration this weekend! The initial plan for Maggie’s birthday had been to drive out to New Braunfels, float the river, and enjoy each others’ company. Then we got lazy, didn’t want to find a house to stay at, or drive all the way out there. Themed parties are the absolute best. Everyone has an excuse to dress up, they make for the best decorations, and it gives you a reason to try a bunch of new drink recipes! For Megan’s birthday this year we decided to go with the perfect little Great Gatsby soiree. Like I said, the three main parts of the party included costumes, swanky decor, and 20s style cocktails. Oh, and it wouldn’t be a birthday without a HUGE cake! I’d been dying to throw a tea party. The last one I planned had 2 stuffed dogs, a teddy bear, and an American Girl Doll in attendance. There was the tiniest of tea sets filled with water, and those chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry wafer cookies on the menu. It was a spectacular event.
